We have decided to name the animal cruelty victim that passed away today upon arrival to Davidson Animal Hospital Michael.
Michael was found today in his dog house by Lexington Animal Control Officer Sam Fritts chained, starved, and covered in fleas and maggots. Michael was barley alive when he was rescued but he soon passed away on his way to the Animal Hospital.
We will not post his pics, only this one of his flea infested fur, the others are simply too disturbing. Michael was chained and dying from starvation, suffering from the most horrible flea and maggot infestation we have ever seen, heart-worm positive and prior to his death motor oil was poured on him by his former “owners” to “kill the fleas”. We will say many prayers for Michael and for Lexington Animal Control Officer Sam Fritts who tried to get him to the vet before he died but the images of such horrible neglect will haunt us forever.
A Necropsy has been preformed on Michael and the cause of death is listed as severe anemia and starvation.
**Felony Animal Cruelty Charges have been Filed, Michael’s now former “owner” has been arrested**
Out of the darkness and sadness of the day we heard a tiny meow crying out from the Animal Control truck and discovered a tiny black kitten that had been picked up as a stray. We know our shelter is full of cats and kittens and they have not had hardly any feline adoptions this month (only 13 out of hundreds coming in), so we decided that event though we could not save Michael today we could save this little one…we named him Jet.
