Seized 7/17/13- Odom and Wendy Donations/Placement Needed

Lexington Animal Control Officer Sam Fritts was responding to an animal welfare check today (7/17/13) and found 2 Pit Bull Terriers (a male and female) chained and “living” in squalor conditions without food or water. Both dogs had huge 12 lbs logging chains wrapped around their necks and the female has a couple of links that has embedded into her neck. The chain has been removed and the infected wound has/is being treated. She is also HW Positive, has a bad ear infection, ear mites and she “loaded” with internal and external parasites (also being treated for).
The male is HW negative, “loaded” with hook & whip worms, his ears have open wounds from fly bites, and he is under weight. He was covered in fleas and as a result he is very anemic. He is also missing fur (flea dermatitis suspected). In his exam we noticed that his legs, shoulder and hips are bowed out and crooked. Dr. Hedrick suspects that he may have Rickets, we should know more about this soon. His teeth are also worn down, broke off and in horrible shape so it appears that this is an older boy. Please keep him in your thoughts, the shape of his legs and limps/sways in walk is worrisome. Hopefully this is something can get better with treatment.
Lexington Animal Control Officer Sam Fritts has decided to name the female Wendy and the male Odom after the assisting LPD Officers.
*Charges will be filed and will be posted as soon as we have word. Donations are also greatly needed for their medical care. Ginger’s Fund FOS-DCNC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, your donations are tax deductible.
