Starved and Frozen-Seized 1/22/14-Donations Needed
Lexington Animal Control Officer Sam Fritts was responding to an animal welfare call on 1/22/14 where he found 3 small dogs. For one of the small dogs the call came in too late.
At the location Officer Fritts found a severely emaciated male Chihuahua. He was chained, nothing but fur and bones, he had a plastic house with no shavings or any bedding, there was no food or water anywhere around and he was already dead completely frozen. The high temperature on 1/22/14 was only 24 degrees, it had rained the previous night with the temps well below freezing.
The other 2 small dogs on the property were also emaciated. They were wet and so cold. No food or water was present and they needed life saving care immediately so they too would not suffer the same fate as their friend. We named them Jasper and Jasmine.
As you can see Jasper is emaciated, he was outside with no food, no water, he had a plastic dog house that had no bedding for warmth and the temps have been well below freezing for the past couple of days. Jasper was wet, cold, starving, loaded with intestinal parasites and covered in fleas. He is a Min Pin, tested negative for Heartworms and he weighed in at only 11 lbs.
Jasmine’s belly is swollen most likely due to the internal parasite and her ribs are visible. She was outside with no food, no water, she had a plastic dog house that had no bedding for warmth and the temps have been well below freezing for the past couple of days. Jasmine was wet, cold, hungry, thirsty, loaded with intestinal parasites and covered in fleas. Jasmine is Mini Beagle, she has tested positive for Heartworms and she weighed in at only 14 lbs.
Please keep Jasper and Jasmine in your thoughts, we will keep you posted on their progress and any new medical info that comes in. Right now they are being treated, de-wormed, kept warm and being fed small meals 4-6x daily to help them regain their strength. Dr. Hedrick aged both of them at around 5 yrs old.

People it is freezing outside ! Bring your animals inside ! They are freezing to death out there ! Don't take a chance with a life they are living breathing beings !
IF you cannot bring them inside at least put some straw or shavings in their house. For God's sake do not leave them chained outside with no protection. If you are that dumb you do not need pets or children.
I hope charges are going to be filed against these indifferent morons.
There is absolutely no excuse for this.
How can anyone do this to an animal? Why do they want or have animals if they are going to treat them so horribly? I hope charges are brought against them and they are given the maximum sentence. By the way, we need stronger animal abuse laws and harsher punishment.
So sad, this case , as many others was not just cold..these poor babies were starved. I just don't understand why people to this.

IF SOMEONE IS NOT ABLE TO BRING THEIR PET INSIDE THEN THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE THE PET. PERIOD..
I just cried when I heard about the little dog that was starved and froze to death. Also hope Jasmine and Jasper get the help and love that they need. Please people if you can give no matter how small they need it. Ginger Funds is a great place for these poor babies. Also the vet Dr. Hedrick is a wonderful person to care for them!!
These folks should beput outside in the freezing temeratures and let them see just how these animals feel, it is so horrible how you can treat these furbabies this way! If you cant take care of them then give the to someone who can and save these babies the hard life!! I LOVE MY ANIMALS better than people!

Let me tell u what I think should happen whoever did this to these 3 innocent lil babys they need to be done the same way and deal with what the dogs suffered I hope an pray they file charges on the person are person responsible …

I think you should ask Digtriad to share the story of Little Joshua, Jasper and Jasmine…and ask for public donations as well.

As a dog owner, especially a chihuahua, my heart broke to pieces as I read about little Joshua! I cannot imagine how a person with an ounce of humanity could do this!! My prayers are with Jasper and Jasmine for a speedy recovery and loving homes!!
I see different animal abuse cases almost daily, but seeing this story of little "Joshua" today has rocked me to the core…I can't stop crying, literally. My husband came into the room and thought something had happened to me because I was crying so hard. The "people" (I use that word loosely) that did this to these three innocent babies need to get more than a slap on the wrist and a fine that they will probably never pay!!! We as animal lovers have to unite and get our state laws for animal abuse stiffer so that we can then make them Federal Laws with mandatory jail time! Rest in peace, little man, they're waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge.
For all of the moronic and heartless people who are leaving their animals out in sub zero conditions, trade places with your animals. Chain yourselves outside for hours on end, stay out in the frigid temps for days with no food or water or adequate housing to get out of the rain, snow and blistering winds.
If it's too cold for you God damn it, IT'S TOO COLD FOR THE ANIMALS YOU HEARTLESS BASTARDS!!

I am so horrified by what people could do to these innocent victims of abuse, torment, irresponsibility, neglect…I cannot understand the mentality of these sick persons..who do this every day to these unfortunate victims. I commit my time/effort and funds to help in anyway I can. To sign as many petitions until my fingers hurt. I am committed to helping make animal abuse CLASS A FELONY throughout every state in the USA. Let's get this done people!
Prosecute these people to the FULLEST extent the law will allow. We must NO LONGER let our fellow sentient beings suffer silently. PUNISH the offenders.
whoever owned these animals should be chained outside with no food or water and a plastic dog kennel just like these poor babies. They are nothing but animals themselves. No matter what circumstances you find yourself in if you can't afford your pets there are options – Rescue first – Animal Control second – do not let them suffer there is no need. This makes me so angry! If you own a pet….then, for goodness sake, treat it kindly, with love and compassion! This kind of cruelty is unforgivable and totally NOT okay!! There is a special place in hell for the person(s) responsible for this!!!!!
I am so saddened to hear this Poor Little Dog deserved better,,, We need stricter laws.. to protect animals and we need to be aware of our neighbors our surroundings and get involved, REPORT anything you feel is neglect or abuse of an animal and don't give up on them.. and we need compassion..~

We would like to Thank Animal Control Officer "Sam Fritts" and the Lexington Police Department for enforcing animal cruelty laws. An arrest has been made (and is public record) in the cruelty case involving "Little Joshua", Jasmine and Jasper. Brittany D. I will never understand why the heck people have pets when they have no desire to take care of them. It makes no sense to take one home they have no intention of even feeding, but 4!!!! That is a crime to be dealt with.

How can any "human" sit in a warm house adn warm bed knowing that tiny little dogs , or even big dogs are very uncomfotably cold ?? There is no way to rest when anything is that cold , especially tiny dogs . If a person thinks their house is "too good" for their pets to be inside iinstead of outside when it is that cold they DO NOT NEED ANIMALS especially small ones . chihuahuas , Poodles, Maltese , MIni PIn and such are house dogs "inside dogs " they were bred to be lap dogs , Chines ancients used some in bed for foot warmers.

Would it be possible to find out what happens to the "owners" of these poor creatures? I'd like to know who the authorities see these cruelties in terms of the law.
