Halo and Lailah were seized on 1/15/13 after Lexington Animal Control Officer Sam Fritts discovered a severely emaciated deceased dog (we named her Lailah) in a trash can when responding to an animal welfare call. Lailah (the 12 yr old deceased-starvation) was taken immediately to Davidson Animal Hospital where Dr. Hedrick performed the autopsy of the 12 year Shepherd mix. The autopsy report showed that Lailah cause of death was starvation and she was also heavily infested with internal parasites.

Upon receiving the autopsy report Officer Fritts and the LPD sprang into action and rescued the second dog inside and immediately took her into the Animal Hospital for needed care. Halo is a little over 1 year old and is currently 31lbs (she is about 10lbs under weight). She is very sweet and was so happy to have human contact (and treats). This girl was “living” in horrible conditions locked in the bathroom of the house for quite some time. It is also apparent that she has been abused. Halo has no aggression but she quickly coward down when we went to slide a stool out to sit on or when one of us would gently touch her from behind her view, she would hang her low, scrunch up, and brace for possible impact. Halo was rescued right in time, otherwise by her body condition she would have been an autopsy not too long down the road just like Lailah.

We are in need of donations for her medical expenses. Donors can click on the donate button or send in donations via mail to Ginger’s Fund FOS-DCNC, PO Box 1036, Thomasville, NC 27361. Ginger’s Fund FOS-DCNC operates off of public donations, no donation is too small and Ginger’s Fund FOS-DCNC is a 501c3 non-profit organization.

Halo is also in need of a loving home. If you are interested in providing her with a wonderful home with your family please email us at GingersFund@live.com.**Halo is a 1 yr old, Shepard mix, she has been fully vetted, tested Heartworm Negative, and she will be around 40lbs when she is back up to her normal weight.**
