This 6+yr old girl was seized by the Lexington Police Department and Lexington Animal Control Officer Sam Fritts on 7/23/13. Officer Fritts was responding to an animal welfare check when he found this female Shepherd X on a 12 lb chain, hungry, and with an injured leg. She was taken to Davidson Animal Hospital and the following is what Dr. Hedrick found:

Fleas, Heartworm Postitive, stool check positive for whipworms & hookworms, previously shot with a pellet on right side of abdomen (pellet is lodged in abdomen), very thin, chain mark on right hock, broken tibia right tarsal bone->30 day old injury, Temp:102.6

Dr. Hedrick thinks that she may need surgery on her leg but first she has to get her nutrition levels up (for surgery) and it is possible that with proper nutrition her body may allow for other non-invasive treatments for her broken leg, only time will tell. The pellet that is lodged in her abdomen poses no risk to her so it will not need to be surgically removed.

More info to come and cruelty charges will be filled against the responsible party. Donations towards her care will be greatly appreciated, we have been hit hard over the past 4 weeks with 5 cruelty cases with a total of 8 animals, many of of which are Heartworm Positive. No amount is too small and Ginger’s Fund FOS-DCNC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, your donations are tax deductible. Donations can be made by clicking on the “Donate” button at the top of the screen or by mail to Ginger’s Fund FOS-DCNC, PO Box 1036, Thomasville, NC 27361. Thank you for your support <3
