Lexington Animal Control Officer Sam Fritts was responding to animal welfare check called in by a city worker when he found 4 yr old Hercules (Dr. Hedrick named him Hercules) chained at an abandoned house, under weight, the side of the house was covered with blood, and Hercules had deep lacerations on his limbs. Hercules was chained outside close to “his” house that had no power, no water, no electricity, and he was trying to get back inside the house by going through a glass window. His now former “owner” was located and she said that she was moving to Spencer, NC and chained him outside (he was supposedly previously inside) and was going to “pick him up later”. Hercules was starving and was trying to break back into his house and his efforts resulted in deep lacerations to his limbs (if he made it all the way through though he would have been hanged by his chain). He was taken to our vet (Davidson Animal Hospital) where Dr. Hedrick fully checked him out and began treatment.
Hercules only weighs 40lbs (he should be at least 60-65lbs), he is loaded with intestinal parasites, fleas, dehydrated, he is Heartworm negative, estimated to be 4 yrs old, his cuts are deep (and at least 3-4 days old), infected, swollen, and will need surgical repair once the infection is under control.
Hercules is a sweet boy, very friendly, he is K9 friendly and will need placement once he has had surgery (he will also be neutered during his surgery).
