Lexington Animal Control Officer Sam Fritts and LPD Officer Forest was responding to animal welfare call today (8/30/13) when they found 2 male Pit Bulls, chained, starving, and in need of help. Both dogs had no food, no water, and were “living” in horrible conditions. Sullivan (named by Dr. Hedrick) was in the worse shape of the two, he only had about 2 feet of chain to “move” around on and could not stand up without falling down. He is emaciated, severely anemic, and we are hoping he was found in time to be saved.
The officers rushed the 2 Pit Bulls to Davidson Animal Hospital where they were immediately seen by Dr. Hedrick. Medical Findings:
Sullivan: 2-4 years old, emaciated, weight 36 lbs, very anemic, weak, difficulty standing, open soars on ears and head from fly bites, missing fur on limbs, loaded with intestinal worms, HW positive, fleas, and dehydrated. Sullivan had to be placed in Intensive Care Unit immediately for his anemia-he may need a blood transfusion soon if his anemia does not respond to treatment. *Donations are greatly needed for his medical care*
Forrest (named after Officer Forest): 1-2 years old, Brindle and White, unaltered male Pit Bull. Loaded with intestinal worms, HW negative, fleas, emaciated, weight 39lbs.
Both Sullivan and Forest are being treated by Dr. Hedrick and their now former “owners” will be charged with animal cruelty. We will post all of the charges and court dates as they come in. Please keep these 2 boys in your thoughts, Sullivan is “touch and go” right now, but hopefully he will turn the corner soon. He is eating on his own so that is a great sign.
Donations are greatly needed for their care. Ginger’s Fund FOS-DCNC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, your donations are tax deductible. Donations can be made online (donate button at the top of the screen) or by mail to Ginger’s Fund FOS-DCNC, PO Box 1036, Thomasville, NC 27361. As always thank you for your support <3
*Sullivan has been accepted into the Merit Pit Bull Foundation program and will be able to go upon his recovery and medical release <3 (Thank You MPBF!). Please keep him in your thoughts that he will pull through, he is so weak. Forest is still in need of placement, if you can help Forest by providing a foster or adoptive home email us at GingersFund@live.com.
